The title of the webinar is: Team Emotional Intelligence for Building High Performance,
By Geetu Bharwaney, Vanessa Druskat, and Dr. Steve B. Wolf.
Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups. Psychological studies show in group work we need to have control, everyone should have his own control in the group, understanding, the different team members should understand each other, and understand what is going on in the group, it is not only about data it is also about the members, and finally we should have trust between the different members of the group.
Every time we work in groups the emotions that are engaged are unconscious and automatic. And we tend always to suppress and neglect the conflicts that may happen between the members, or any problem member faces or feels. And they describe the problem as an ice berg, that we not aware of the real size of the problem that we suppress, we see only the top of the iceberg, like the facial gestures, and we forget about the hidden parts, that may be the real problem. Also, we tend to focus on person and personal characteristics, neglecting the environment, and they describe this point as an equation, that the behavior of the team should focus on both person and environment.
What is team work? When each brings his own ideas into the team, to be integrated to get superior outcomes than when we work individually, and this allow continuous learning and improvement.
Team work leads to constructive interaction, collaborative work processes and team effectiveness. Then they talked about the process, how to apply Wolf's TEI: The team leader engages in team emotional intelligence, next all team members take the survey, and the survey results are debriefed with team leader first, then team defines the norms and changes desired, finally team actions will be adopted.
